Thrifty Thursday – To Bundle or Not to Bundle

money copy.

To bundle or not to bundle, that is the question for today. The answer? YES! There are a lot of great “bundling” offers out there and they are a big savings. Internet, phone and cable for $99 bucks, yes please. So what about after the introductory period is up? Now your bill skyrockets to $200+ dollars. What do you do? You call and negotiate. Your opening line starts out something like this. “Hi I’d like to call and cancel my services” or “I’d like to cancel everything but my landline”. This will get them saying things like “oh I’m sorry to hear that. Was there a problem with your services?” Let them know that it has just gotten way to expensive and you are going to move to “blah blah blah services”,  for some great offer they are running. (It’s a good idea to have saved a few of those other offers before you are going to do this.) Often times their negotiating skills will kick right in and start offering you the same deal or  extend the deal you had. The funny thing is they want you to sign a 1 or 2 year contract with them once you struck a deal. SUPER! That means they can’t raise your rates for 2 years! I’ll take it.

What is the customer service agent don’t offer me a deal? Good question! Sometimes the customer service agent is new, doesn’t know how to negotiate or is just a pain in the butt.  You can do three things:

1. Ask to speak to a manager

2. Find a reason to get off the phone and call back at another time. (you are likely to get another agent)

3. Cancel – It is a pain, but they will send even better offers the next round. Additionally, you can take advantage of the free stuff from the new carrier you choose. Just be sure to watch all your pre-recorded shows. Those will leave with your service.

Good luck and happy saving

Tattle Tuesday – White vs Brown Eggs

eggs

Do you spring for the brown eggs when you head to the grocery store. Have you heard they’re better for you? Well we’re here to tell you the truth about eggs:

White eggs = Come from chickens with white feathers

Brown Eggs =Come from chickens with brown feathers

That’s all folks! There is no difference in taste or quality.

Next time you hit the grocery store save a buck and buy what’s on sale.

Screen Shot 2014-04-24 at 8.26.47 AM

Everyone has bought a gift card. They are the fail safe gift for those that are hard to shop for.  They are great for mailing and fit nicely into a card. There are a ton of great reasons to buy a gift card, but not a ton of good reasons to pay full price for one. Do I have your attention? That’s right…discounted gift cards! No you don’t need a membership to a warehouse store and you don’t need to get roped into some other deal to get this one. It’s called cardpool It’s a great place to find gift cards at a discounted rate. Here’s how it works. There are 3 services availible . The first is buying cards at a discounted rate. No catch. The second is selling cards. That’s right again. You can sell your unwanted gift cards from Christmas that you are never going to use. Maybe you got a card to Olive Garden but the closest one is over 20 miles away. No problem. Just post your card online and get some cash for it. The third service is a bulk sale discount. You may think, “I won’t use this service”. You may not, but your business might! Do you work somewhere that needs to boost sales? Maybe you are the manager of a store and want to drive traffic? Call the 1-800 number for more details on how to sell $5,000+ in gift cards.

Hopefully we could save you a little money today. Happy shopping!
