Food Friday – Healthy Choices


Oatmeal is a great choice when it comes to breakfast options. Any oatmeal is better than no breakfast at all, but is one oatmeal better than another? Maybe! Although instant oatmeal may seem more convenient, the old fashion oatmeal might be a better option.  The traditional oatmeal is free from harsh chemicals and preservatives that are found in the instant versions.  The lack of preservatives helps the body to process more slowly therefore allowing your body to use it as fuel rather than convert to sugar and eventual fat. A great alternative to instant is to pre-measure the traditional version in baggies. You can still heat it up in the microwave and add fresh fruits, nuts, milk or sugar after heating.
