Monday Funday – Fall Fun Craft

This after school art project is easy and beautiful! Your kids will love the painting and you’ll love a new decoration for the fall season that isn’t a turkey hand!

Here is what you need:

  • Canvas – This can be a nice canvas if you find them on sale, card stock, or just a plain piece of paper
  • Paint – You can find craft paint at your local stores such as Walmart or hit a craft store for more color options.
  • Painters tape – Hopefully you have some laying around the house or garage.
  • Sponge brushes – You should have some left over from the last craft we did, but if not, you can get them at Walmart or the craft store. For this project we like to you the round head sponge brushes.
  • Paper plate

Directions:

1. Tear painters tape into strips. The the strips to create the trunk and branches. Use smaller strips for smaller branches. If you can tapper the strips, you are a super mom/dad!

2. Tear small pieces of the paint to makes leaves and add to your canvas

3. Pour your favorite fall colors on a paper plate.

4. Use the sponge brushes to blot colors on the canvas. Overlap colors for a great watercolor look.

5. Pull the tape off the canvas. The tree will be left on the canvas in white!

Enjoy!

Add peaches and 80z fruit juice to blender – blend until smooth

Thrifty Thursday – Bookmarks

Do you have a birthday coming up? How about a baby shower? Even christmas isn’t too far off for this inexpensive idea. These homemade book marks can be packaged and added to a favorite baby book,  cook book, or novel for a personal touch.

Directions:

  • Purchase a box of colored paperclips. You can buy any size but a medium to large will work best.
  • Purchase coordinating ribbon. Buying by the yard is cheapest. You’ll need about 5 or 6 inches for each book mark.
  • Cut 5-6 inches of ribbon on an angle.
  • Fold ribbon in half evenly.
  • Scoop folded end of ribbon through the top of the paperclip.
  • Slip the 2 cut ends through the loop and tug tight.

Thrifty Thursday – Fresh Food Longer

There are some foods that seem to go bad before we can finish them. To help keep them fresher longer and save on your grocery bills, try these tips:

1. A pinch of salt in the milk with keep it fresh longer

2. Storing bananas away from other fruit (including other bananas) will keep them from going brown as fast.

3. Stale bread can be rehydrated by adding a stalk of celery to the bag.

4. Keep potatoes from growing eyes by adding an apple to the bag

5. Throw a piece of tissue paper in the bottom of the cookie jar to keep them from drying out.

Tip Tuesday – Saving Receipts

Tip Tuesday – Saving Receipts

receiptsReceipts are a pain in the bum. You save hundreds of receipts, then when you need one, you can’t find it! Well if you don’t already keep them in labeled envelopes, we suggest you start there. We have another little tip for you that might come in handy.

Tape the receipt right to the product or box it came in. In this case we just taped  the receipt right inside the table out of site. With smaller appliances you can tape them to the box you store them in or tape an envelope right inside a kitchen cabinet that holds the receipt to all of your kitchen wares!

Good Luck!
